MISSION:
The Railroad Playhouse is dedicated to the revitalization of Newburgh and the preservation of Newburgh's historic West Shore Railroad Station by providing a space for high-quality, artistically creative performing arts experiences.
The Railroad Playhouse will strive to provide a home for playwrights to workshop and showcase new plays; present local, national, and international artists of all genres; create partnerships with local businesses and organizations to continue revitalizing the area; implement a summer arts camp for local children; and create teaching-artist residencies in local schools.
FOUNDERS:
Jen Soloway (Co-Founder, Executive Director): Jen Soloway currently serves as the Business Manager for Making Books Sing and was previoiusly the Finance Director of the Jose Limon Dance Foundation. She has worked as the Assistant General Manager at Classic Stage Company, the Chief Operating Officer at Off Broadway Booking, and the Production Manager of the Vittum Theater in Chicago. Jen also worked at Webb Management Services as an Arts Management Consultant and wrote a proposal to convert a historic Brooklyn church into an arts center for Stages on the Sound. Jen was recently the Production Manager and Venue Consultant for the Astoria Performing Arts Center. Jen holds a BFA in Theatre Technology from DePaul University in Chicago, and an MFA in Arts Management from Brooklyn College. Jen moved to Cornwall, NY from Astoria, NY with husband and Co-Founder Seth, in December 2009.
Seth Soloway (Co-Founder, Consulting Artistic Director): Seth Soloway currently serves as Director of Booking at OBB, a theatrical booking and touring agency dedicated to the promotion and awareness of Off-Broadway as a brand of theatrical excellence outside of New York City. Current projects include The Aluminum Show, Celebrity Autobiography, and All Shook Up. Seth came to OBB from Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts where he served as Artistic Director. Seth has also worked at Richard Frankel Productions (Producers, Hairspray, Sweeny Todd) and served as the Lortel Administrator for the Off Broadway League. Other previous experience includes various positions at Second Stage Theater and the Appel Farm Arts and Music Center. Directing credits include After Wednesday (new play by Louise Schwarz), the New York premiere of Survival by Jeremy Basescu, Stock Home by Alex Goldberg (NYC Fringe Festival), Sweet on the Donor (Ashlin Halfnight) and most recently, The Underpants by Steve Martin (Gallery Players.) Seth currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Electric Pear Productions and is on the Brooklyn College MFA Performing Arts Management Alumni Board. Seth holds a BFA in Directing from Marymount Manhattan College and an MFA in Performing Arts Management from Brooklyn College.
Carolyn Perl (Co-Founder): Carolyn Perl dedicated half of her life to raising her wonderful kids! She is currently one of the top-selling sales associates at Weichert Realtors. From 1996 to 2005, Carolyn was the President of Perl Quality Installations, a construction firm which provided installation of windows, curtain walls, and entrances for commercial buildings in NYC. She operated Carolyn Perl Interiors, a full service interior decorating service, from 1995 to 2003. From 1987 to 1995, Carolyn served as the executive assistant to the VP of Premium Audit at AIG. She has also worked in front offices for many top executives.

VENUE:
The Railroad Playhouse will be a 99-seat flexible venue with a sprung wooden floor and a full lighting and sound system. With no permanent seating or fixed stage, the audience experience will be different for every event. Other features include dressing rooms, office space, a grand lobby, and concessions.
A cafe called PIZZA SHOP will be across the lobby from Railroad Playhouse! We are very excited about this partnership!
RENTALS:
The Railroad Playhouse will be available to rent once the beautiful renovations are complete! Information about rentals, including rates, technical specifications, and catering will be listed here soon. Please contact info_rrplayhouse.org if you are interested in renting the space.

The Railroad Playhouse will be commissioning and developing new plays from up-and-coming playwrights from Newburgh to New Zealand. Check back here for information about writing workshops, staged readings, and fully-produced performances of new plays.

YOUNG ENGINEERS:
The Railroad Playhouse believes the future of the arts is held in the hands of the youth. We will provide our Young Engineers with performances combined with learning experiences, such as lecture/demonstrations and Q & A's with the artists. We are planning a summer arts camp for Summer 2011. The Railroad Playhouse will also be working with local schools to provide teaching-artist residencies in your classrooms! The Railroad Playhouse is full steam ahead with fundraising and planning programs!!! We expect the building to be open in October 2010, with an official season opening in October 2010!! Fundraiser events will be announced soon!
